The Holy Eucharist as the Highest form of Worship.

In the Catholic Church, the highest and fullest form of worship is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, centered on the Most Holy Eucharist. The Eucharist is offered to God the Father, through Jesus Christ the Son, in the unity of the Holy Spirit. It is true worship because the Eucharist is not merely a symbol, but Christ Himself truly present — Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity.

Catholics honor and love the Blessed Virgin Mary and the saints, but they are never worshipped as gods. Likewise, statues are not idols; they are simply sacred images that remind us of holy persons and the mysteries of the Faith.

If Catholics truly believed Mary or statues were gods, then the Eucharist the Church’s highest act of worship would be offered to them. But it never is. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is offered to God alone.

The Catholic Church clearly distinguishes between:

• Latria — adoration and worship due to God alone

• Dulia — honor given to the saints

• Hyperdulia — special honor given to Mary as the Mother of God, yet still infinitely below the worship owed to God

From the earliest centuries of Christianity, Catholics have professed one God and have directed worship to Him alone.
