Catholic Bishops of Ireland, Trócaire | Peace and dialogue

The overseas development agency of the Catholic Bishops of Ireland, Trócaire, has urged the parties involved in the conflict in Sudan to embrace dialogue to resolve the country’s protracted war, lamenting that the Sudanese people have suffered for too long.

In a report that ACI Africa obtained on Friday, June 26, Trócaire officials say the conflict continues to devastate lives and livelihoods across Sudan, especially Sudan's Nuba Mountains, a region long plagued by conflict and instability.

“Trócaire calls on all parties to prioritise dialogue and pursue a peaceful and lasting resolution to the conflict,” the officials say, adding, “The people of Sudan have endured far too much suffering and deserve peace, protection and the opportunity to rebuild their lives.”

The officials further call on all parties to the conflict to comply fully with their obligations under international humanitarian law, including the protection of civilians, humanitarian personnel, medical facilities, places of worship, and civilian infrastructure.
