Our Lady of Perpetual Help is one of the most beloved titles of the Blessed Virgin Mary, inspired by the miraculous Byzantine icon that has been venerated for centuries. The image portrays Mary holding the Child Jesus as the Archangels reveal the instruments of His future Passion. Though fully God, Jesus, in His true humanity, seeks the comfort and protection of His Mother, who lovingly embraces Him. Mary's compassionate gaze is not fixed on Jesus but on us, reminding us that she sees our struggles, shares in our sorrows, and never ceases to intercede for her children.
The icon has been a source of countless graces and miracles throughout history. When Pope Pius IX entrusted the image to the Redemptorists, he gave them a simple yet powerful mission: "Make her known throughout the world." Today, millions continue to find hope, strength, and consolation through her loving intercession.
No matter what burdens we carry, we can always turn to our Mother with confidence, knowing that she faithfully leads us to her Son, Jesus Christ.
