A new English edition of “The Lord Holds Us by the Hand” has been released, offering readers a collection of previously unpublished homilies by Pope Benedict XVI. The new book is expected to bring a renewed interest in the voice of Joseph Ratzinger as preacher, theologian, and pastor. Originally published in Italian by the Vatican Publishing House under the title “Il Signore ci tiene per mano,” the book gathers reflections delivered between 2005 and 2017 during Advent, Lent, and Easter. The homilies were preached during private Masses celebrated by Benedict XVI with members of the papal household and guests, both during his pontificate and later as Pope Emeritus. They offer a glimpse into his profound understanding of Scripture and his ability to connect faith with daily Christian life. Edited by Riccardo Bollati, Luca Caruso, and Federico Lombardi, the volume highlights a central theme of Benedict XVI’s spirituality: the belief that Christ accompanies humanity and guides every believer’s journey. The publication is the first in a planned series of unpublished homilies, giving readers a renewed encounter with his spiritual legacy.
