Nearly 123,000 people have signed a petition urging FIFA and the Seattle FIFA World Cup 2026 Organizing Committee to remove the “LGBT Pride Match” designation from the upcoming World Cup fixture between Egypt and Iran scheduled for Friday, June 26, in Seattle, United States.
The petition drive, launched by CitizenGO, follows the decision to designate the match as an official “LGBT Pride Match,” a move the organization says has prompted concern among football supporters across different countries.
In a June 19 press release shared with ACI Africa, CitizenGO announced the launch of an international campaign against the designation, saying that “more than 100,000 people” had already joined the initiative within days of its launch.
The campaign continued to gain momentum, with the number of signatories reaching 122,964 by the time this story was published.
According to CitizenGO, a global pro-life and pro-family advocacy organization that mobilizes citizens around the world to influence public policy and defend human dignity, the campaign seeks to persuade FIFA President Gianni Infantino and the Seattle FIFA World Cup 2026 Organizing Committee to reverse the decision and “restore political neutrality to the tournament.”
