Pope Leo XIV | College of Cardinals | Extraordinary Consistory at the Vatican on June 26–27

Pope Leo XIV has summoned cardinals from around the world to Rome for an Extraordinary Consistory at the Vatican on June 26–27.

During two days of meetings, prayer, and discussion, the Pope and the College of Cardinals will examine some of the most pressing challenges facing the Church and the world today. Among the key topics expected to be discussed are Catholic teaching on just war, the ethical implications of artificial intelligence, and the Church’s role in promoting the common good amid growing global conflict and division.

According to the Holy See Press Office, the gathering will follow a synodal methodology, combining prayer, silence, personal reflection, small-group discussions, and plenary sessions to encourage discernment and dialogue.

The final sessions on June 27 will focus on preparations for the worldwide Synodal Assemblies planned for 2027–2028, outlining practical steps, criteria, and tools for the next phase of the Synod process.

The Extraordinary Consistory will conclude with a direct exchange between Pope Leo XIV and the cardinals, followed by the Pope’s closing address and the singing of the Te Deum.
