Today marks the 44th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Pope Leo XIV

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO POPE LEO XIV

Today marks the 44th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Pope Leo XIV. On June 19, 1982, at the age of 26, the young Augustinian friar Robert Francis Prevost was ordained a priest at St. Monica Chapel near the Vatican. Years before he became the Successor of St. Peter, Pope Leo began a lifelong journey of service rooted in humility, faith, and love for Christ.

His missionary years in Peru, his pastoral dedication, and his tireless proclamation of the Gospel reflect the heart of priestly ministry, a life offered for God’s people. The words of St. Augustine chosen for his ordination card, “I am your servant,” have remained a guiding light throughout his vocation

As we celebrate this grace-filled milestone, the “Shalom World News family” joins the faithful around the world in thanking God for the gift of Pope Leo’s priesthood and praying for him: that the Lord may bless him with good health, steadfast faith, wisdom, courage, and abundant grace as he continues to lead the Church in hope and love.
