The Catholic Church in Sudan is mourning the death of Fr. Youhanna Al-Amin, a priest remembered for his courage, compassion, and steadfast service to communities suffering amid ongoing conflict. Fr. Youhanna, the parish priest of St. Vincent’s Kauda Parish in the Diocese of El Obeid, was killed on Friday, June 19, in the conflict-affected Nuba Mountains, along with a parish watchman and another individual. The region has faced years of instability, armed clashes, and humanitarian challenges. According to local reports, the priest’s death occurred amid escalating tensions between armed groups and tribal factions in the area. Sources indicated that Fr. Youhanna had raised concerns after the medicines, stored by the Church for local residents, were stolen. The attack is believed to have been linked to his efforts to safeguard medical supplies intended to support vulnerable families. Located in the heart of the Nuba Mountains, Kauda has become a refuge for many affected by violence, shortages, and displacement. Despite the growing dangers, Fr. Youhanna chose to remain with the people entrusted to his care. His death has left a deep wound among the faithful, who remember him as a shepherd who lived his mission through sacrifice, service, and love.
