At the Sunday Angelus in St. Peter’s Square, Pope Leo reminded the faithful that the mission of sharing the Gospel does not begin with techniques, strategies, or human abilities, but with a heart transformed by an encounter with Jesus. Reflecting on the words of Christ in the Gospel of Matthew — “What I say to you in the dark, tell in the light,” the Pope explained that authentic Christian witness grows from prayer, silence, and listening to God. He said evangelization becomes credible when believers first experience the love of Christ personally and then share that encounter with others. The Pope recalled the teaching of Thomas Aquinas: “to pass on to others what we have contemplated.” True mission, he said, flows from a deep relationship with the Lord. Pope Leo also encouraged every Christian to embrace moments of contemplation, explaining that prayer is not reserved only for saints or religious communities, but is a call for all believers. Amid challenges, opposition, and discouragement, he urged Christians to remain faithful, responding to hatred with love, arrogance with humility, and fear with perseverance.
