Jesus knows their plan. Instead of falling into their trap, He asks for a coin and points out whose image is on it. Then Jesus said to them, “Give to the emperor the things that are the emperor’s, and to God the things that are God’s.”
Jesus teaches that we have duties in this world, but we also have duties to God. We must respect laws and do what is right in society. At the same time, our life does not fully belong to the world. We belong to God, who created us in His image. So while we give to the world what is due, we must also give our heart, and our life to God.
The First Reading reminds us that we are waiting for the coming of the Lord. But we should not just wait without doing anything. We are called to live good and with peace in our hearts. We must stay away from sin because sin breaks our relationship with God. Instead, we must try to live in a way that pleases Him while we wait for Christ to come again.
Brethren, we are citizens of this world, and we are also children of God. We must be faithful in both. Let our actions show honesty, goodness, and love. And above all, let our lives truly belong to God, so that others may also see Him through us.
