Saint Michael de Sanctis

St. Michael de Sanctis was born in Catalonia, Spain, on September 29, 1591. From his earliest years, he seemed to have been chosen for a life of great holiness, and he never wavered in his love for God or in his vocation. At the age of twelve, he came to Barcelona and asked to be received into the monastery of the Trinitarians. After three years, he took his vows at St. Lambert's monastery in Saragosa in 1607. When, one day, a Discalced Trinitarian came to St. Lambert's to receive Holy orders, Michael felt himself drawn to this more austere congregation. After mature deliberation and with the permission of his superior, he entered the novitiate of the Discalced Trinitarians at Madrid.

Being ordained a Priest, he was elected as Superior of the Monastery at Valladolid twice. St. Michael de Sanctis was noted for living a life of prayer and mortification. His ardent devotion and unwavering respect for the Holy Eucharist shone through in every aspect of his being, bearing witness to the depth of his love and reverence for this sacred sacrament. Those around him said that he had many ecstasies while saying Mass during the Consecration. He led the Monastery as Superior by example, living in holiness, often displaying heroic virtues of humility and prayer. St. Michael died on April 10, 1625, at the age of 33. St. Michael de Sanctis was beatified by Pope Pius VI on May 24, 1779, and canonized by Pope Pius IX on June 8, 1862. He is the patron saint of cancer patients.

St. Michael de Sanctis, pray that all those suffering from cancer be filled with the enduring hope that comes from Jesus, the Divine Healer, and that they find comfort in the knowledge that He is always with them.
