Saint Cletus

Pope Cletus succeeded St. Linus to the papal throne in about the year 76 and reigned for 12 years during the reigns of Emperors Vespasian and Domitian. According to tradition, Pope Cletus divided Rome into twenty-five parishes. One of the few surviving records concerning his papacy mentions him as having ordained several Priests. The sixth-century Liber Pontificalis states that he had a small chapel or "Memoria" erected over the resting place of St. Peter atop Vatican Hill and another one over the tomb of St. Paul on the property of the matron Lucina on the Ostian Way. He was believed to have been martyred under the cruel Emperor Domitian. He was buried next to his predecessor, St. Linus, in St. Peter's Basilica

St. Cletus, pray for us to receive the grace and strength to diligently face the challenges in our lives.
