Good Friday

Good Friday is a solemn and profound day of remembrance and reflection for Christians worldwide. It is a day to honor and meditate on the ultimate sacrifice made by Jesus Christ, the Son of God, who gave his life for the salvation of humanity. Jesus endured unimaginable suffering and agony, becoming the bridge between humanity and heaven when there was no other way. He took on our sins and imperfections and paid the ultimate price for our salvation. Through his death and resurrection, he demonstrated the depth of God's love for us and paved the way for us to become heirs of heaven.

As 1 Peter 3:18 reminds us, "For Christ died for sins once and for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God."  So, Good Friday is a day of hope and redemption, reminding us that Jesus opened the door to eternal life and reconciliation with God through his death and resurrection. It is a day of fasting, abstinence, and penance, as we seek to purify our hearts and minds and draw closer to God.

The Catholic liturgy on Good Friday is a deeply moving and spiritual experience composed of three distinct moments that guide the faithful on a journey of reflection and contemplation: the Liturgy of the Word, the Adoration of the Holy Cross, and Holy Communion. Christ gave up himself for us so that we might have life and have it abundantly. Let us honor His ultimate sacrifice on the Cross and strive to lead lives reflecting the love and grace He showed us on this day.

O Jesus, we bow down before Your Cross. With utmost contrition, we beg for Your forgiveness. Pour forth the abundance of Your mercy flowing from Your wounded side on us. Amen.
