First Reading : Jeremiah 20:10‐13

Jeremiah said: I hear so many disparaging me, ‘“Terror from every side!” Denounce him! Let us denounce him!’ All those who used to be my friends watched for my downfall, ‘Perhaps he will be seduced into error. Then we will master him and take our revenge!’ But the Lord is at my side, a mighty hero; my opponents will stumble, mastered, confounded by their failure; everlasting, unforgettable disgrace will be theirs. But you, O Lord of Hosts, you who probe with justice, who scrutinise the loins and heart, let me see the vengeance you will take on them, for I have committed my cause to you. Sing to the Lord, praise the Lord, for he has delivered the soul of the needy from the hands of evil men.

Gospel : John 10:31‐42

The Jews fetched stones to stone him, so Jesus said to them, ‘I have done many good works for you to see, works from my Father; for which of these are you stoning me?’ The Jews answered him, ‘We are not stoning you for doing a good work but for blasphemy: you are only a man and you claim to be God.’ Jesus answered: ‘Is it not written in your Law: I said, you are gods? So the Law uses the word gods of those to whom the word of God was addressed, and scripture cannot be rejected. Yet you say to someone the Father has consecrated and sent into the world, “You are blaspheming,” because he says, “I am the son of God.” If I am not doing my Father’s work, there is no need to believe me; but if I am doing it, then even if you refuse to believe in me, at least believe in the work I do; then you will know for surevthat the Father is in me and I am in the Father.’ They wanted to arrest him then, but he eluded them. He went back again to the far side of the Jordan to stay in the district where John had once been baptising. Many people who came to him there said, ‘John gave no signs, but all he said about this man was true’; and many of them believed in him.

Words of the Holy Father:

“This reconciliation is the re-creation of the world: this is the most profound mission of Jesus. The redemption of all of us sinners; and Jesus does this not with words, not with gestures, not walking along the street. No! He does it with His flesh! It is He Himself, God who became one of us, a human, to heal us from within, [He came] to us sinners.” (…) “This is the greatest miracle. And what does Jesus accomplish with this? He make us children, with the liberty of children. Because of what Jesus has done, we can say ‘Father.’ [If He had not done so] we would never have been able to say this: ‘Father!’ And to say ‘Father’ with so good and so beautiful an attitude, with liberty! This is the great miracle of Jesus. We, who were slaves of sin – He has made us all free, He has healed us at the very core of our existence. We would do well to think about this, and to think how beautiful it is to be children, and how beautiful this ‘liberty of children’ is, because the child is in the house, and Jesus has opened the doors of the house to us . . . Now we are in the house!” (…)That is the root of our courage: I am free, I am a child . . . The Father loves me, and I love the Father! Let us ask the Lord for the grace to truly understand this work of His, what God has done in Him: God has reconciled the world to Himself in Christ, entrusting to us the word of reconciliation and the grace of bearing this word of reconciliation onward, forcefully, with the liberty of children. We are saved in Jesus Christ! And no one can take from us this ‘identity card.’ This is how I identify myself: as a child of God! What a beautiful identity! Civil status: we are free! Amen. Santo Stanislaus, Uskup dan Martir.

Santo Stanislaus lahir di Szczepanow, Polandia selatan pada tanggal 26 Juli 1030. Ketika itu ibu-bapanya sudah memasuki usia senja. Boleh dikatakan Stanislaus adalah hadiah Allah kepada kedua orangtuanya yang tidak kunjung putus berdoa untuk mendapatkan seorang anak. Ibu bapanya mempersembahkan kembali dia kepada Allah yang telah mengabulkan permohonan mereka.

Ketika meningkat remaja, Santo Stanislaus ternyata menunjukkan kepintaran yang luar biasa. Cita-cita hidupnya hanya satu, yakni menjadi abdi Allah sebagai seorang rahib. Cita-cita luhur ini baru terwujud setelah kedua orangtuanya meninggal dunia. Sebagai anak tunggal, ia tidak mempunyai suatu keterikatan kepada siapapun. Ia melepaskan segala-galanya, termasuk harta warisan orangtuanya lalu memasuki pendidikan imamat.

Ia ditabhiskan menjadi imam setelah menyelesaikan studinya di Gniezno, Polandia Barat. Dalam karyanya ia terkenal sebagai pengkhotbah ulung di Katedral Krakow. Kerajinan, kesalehan dan kepandaiannya membuat dia sangat berpengaruh di seluruh ke uskupan Krakow dan Kerajaan Polandia. Akhirnya pada tahun 1072, ia ditabhiskan menjadi uskup di kota Krakow atas restu Paus Aleksander II (1061-1073).

Pada masa kepemimpinannya, Kerajaan Polandia di kuasai oleh Raja Boleslaus (1058-1079), seorang raja yang cakap tetapi sombong dan cabul. Nafsu kuasanya yang besar mendorongnya melakukan perbuatan-perbuatan tidak terpuji di hadapan mata rakyatnya. Ia menikahi dengan paksa isteri seorang prajuritnya. Perbuatan ini merupakan contoh yang sangat buruk bagi seluruh rakyat. Mendengar berita itu, Uskup Stanislaus segera berangkat ke istana untuk menegur raja. Karena Boleslaus tidak peduli akan tegurannya, ia mengekskomunikasi Boleslaus dari Gereja.

Tindakan ekskomunikasi inipun tidak dihiraukan. Boleslaus tetap masuk ke Gereja untuk mengikuti kurban misa seperti sedia kala. Pada suatu ketika, ia mengikuti perayaan misa kudus di gereja katedral. Ketika imam, pemimpin misa itu melihat Boleslaus ikut serta dalam perayaan itu, ia segera menghentikan perayaan dan meninggalkan altar. Boleslaus marah dan dengan pengawal-pengawalnya segera mencari Uskup Stanislaus yang mengekskomunikasinya. Mereka menemukan dia di kapelnya. Stanislaus yang sedang merayakan misa pada saat itu ditangkap dan dibunuh dengan kejam. Peristiwa naas ini terjadi pada tahun 1097. Stanislaus dikuburkan disebuah kapela dan pada tahun 1088 dipindahkan di Gereja Katedral Krakow. Ia digelari kudus oleh Sri Paus Innocentius IV (1243-1254) pada tahun 1523.

Santo George Gersave OSB, Martir.

Sewaktu masa mudanya, Santo George terkenal sebagai anggota pembajak laut pimpinan Francis Drake. Namun ia kemudian bertobat dan menajadi imam. Ia dihukum mati karena melayani umat di Inggris. Santo George meninggal dunia pada tahun 1608.

Yer 20:10  Aku telah mendengar bisikan banyak orang: "Kegentaran datang dari segala jurusan! Adukanlah dia! Kita mau mengadukan dia!" Semua orang sahabat karibku mengintai apakah aku tersandung jatuh: "Barangkali ia membiarkan dirinya dibujuk, sehingga kita dapat mengalahkan dia dan dapat melakukan pembalasan kita terhadap dia!"

Yer 20:11  Tetapi TUHAN menyertai aku seperti pahlawan yang gagah, sebab itu orang-orang yang mengejar aku akan tersandung jatuh dan mereka tidak dapat berbuat apa-apa. Mereka akan menjadi malu sekali, sebab mereka tidak berhasil, suatu noda yang selama-lamanya tidak terlupakan!

Yer 20:12 Ya  TUHAN semesta alam, yang menguji orang benar, yang melihat batin dan hati, biarlah aku melihat pembalasan-Mu terhadap mereka, sebab kepada-Mulah kuserahkan perkaraku.

Yer 20:13  Menyanyilah untuk TUHAN, pujilah TUHAN! Sebab ia telah melepaskan nyawa orang miskin dari tangan orang-orang yang berbuat jahat.

Yoh 10:31 Sekali lagi orang-orang Yahudi mengambil batu untuk melempari Yesus.

Yoh 10:32 Kata Yesus kepada mereka: "Banyak pekerjaan baik yang berasal dari Bapa-Ku yang Kuperlihatkan kepadamu; pekerjaan manakah di antaranya yang menyebabkan kamu mau melempari Aku?"

Yoh 10:33 Jawab orang-orang Yahudi itu: "Bukan karena suatu pekerjaan baik maka kami mau melempari Engkau, melainkan karena Engkau menghujat Allah dan karena Engkau, sekalipun hanya seorang manusia saja, menyamakan diri-Mu dengan Allah."

Yoh 10:34 Kata Yesus kepada mereka: "Tidakkah ada tertulis dalam kitab Taurat kamu: Aku telah berfirman: Kamu adalah allah?
