First Reading : Acts 2:36‐41

On the day of Pentecost, Peter spoke to the Jews: ‘The whole House of Israel can be certain that God has made this Jesus whom you crucified both Lord and Christ.’ Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the apostles, ‘What must we do, brothers?’ ‘You must repent,’ Peter answered ‘and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for all those who are far away, for all those whom the Lord our God will call to himself.’ He spoke to them for a long time using many arguments, and he urged them, ‘Save yourselves from this perverse generation.’ They were convinced by his arguments, and they accepted what he said and were baptised. That very day about three thousand were added to their number.

Gospel : John 20:11‐18

Mary stayed outside near the tomb, weeping. Then, still weeping, she stooped to look inside, and saw two angels in white sitting where the body of Jesus had been, one at the head, the other at the feet. They said, ‘Woman, why are you weeping?’ ‘They have taken my Lord away’ she replied ‘and I don’t know where they have put him.’ As she said this she turned round and saw Jesus standing there, though she did not recognise him. Jesus said, ‘Woman, why are you weeping? Who are you looking for?’ Supposing him to be the gardener, she said, ‘Sir, if you have taken him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will go and remove him.’ Jesus said, ‘Mary!’ She knew him then and said to him in Hebrew, ‘Rabbuni!’ – which means Master. Jesus said to her, ‘Do not cling to me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go and find the brothers, and tell them: I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ So Mary of Magdala went and told the disciples that she had seen the Lord and that he had said these things to her.

Words of the Holy Father:

How nice it is to think that the first apparition of the Risen One — according to the Gospels — took place in such a personal way! To think that there is someone who knows us, who sees our suffering and disappointment, who is moved with us and calls us by name. It is a law which we find engraved on many pages of the Gospel. There are many people around Jesus who search for God, but the most prodigious reality is that, long before that, in the first place there is God, who is concerned about our life, who wants to raise it, and to do this, he calls us by name, recognizing the individual face of each person. (…) The Gospels describe Mary’s happiness. Jesus’ Resurrection is not a joy which is measured with a dropper, but a waterfall that cascades over life. Christian life is not woven of soft joys, but of waves which engulf everything. You too, try to imagine, right now, with the baggage of disappointments and failures that each of us carries in our heart, that there is a God close to us who calls us by name and says to us: ‘Rise, stop weeping, for I have come to free you!”. (General Audience, 17 May 2017)

Santo Soter dan Kayus, Paus dan Martir.

Sri Paus Santo Soter (166-175) wafat selaku saksi iman pada tahun 175. Ia hanya memimpin gereja selama 9 tahun. Dalam masa kepemimpinannya, ia mengeluarkan banyak peraturan, yang antara lain mengajak orang-orang Kristen menyambut Sakramen MahaKudus pada hari Kamis Putih. Dari Santo Bapa Kayus (283-296), kita mengenal berbagai peraturan yang telah menjadi kebiasaan Gereja Purba. Tentang para calon imam, ia menerapkan peraturan untuk menerima keempat tabhisan rendah sebelum mereka ditabhiskan menjadi imam. Keempat tabhisan rendah itu ialah: penjaga pintu, lektor (pembaca), exorsis (pengusir setan) atau akolit, kemudian tabhisan subdiakon dan diakon, lalu menjadi imam dan akhirnya Uskup. Santo Kayus wafat sebagai saksi iman pada tahun 296.

Santo Teodoros, Pengaku Iman.

Santo Teodoros dikenal sebagai anak yang tidak sah. Ibu dan kakak perempuannya mengelola warung dan tempat pelacuran. Bocah Teodor dititipkan pada neneknya, yang kemudian dikristenkannya. Menginjak usia dewasa, ia masuk biara dan kemudian dipilih menjadi Uskup Agung Atanisianopolis, Turki. Sesudah 10 tahun memangku jabatan itu, ia kembali menjadi biarawan biasa. Teodor dianugerahi Tuhan kemampuan menyembuhkan berbagai penyakit. Ia meninggal dunia pada tahun 613.

Santo Yosef Moscati, Pengaku Iman.

Santo Yosef lahir pada tahun 1880. Ia kemudian menjadi dokter yang berhasil menyelamatkan banyak penderita sakit jiwa dari bahaya letusan gunung api di Vesuvio, Italia. Ia kemudian menjadi seorang ahli riset dan mahaguru kedokteran di Universitas Napoli sambil tetap membantu orang-orang miskin dan terlantar dengan cuma-cuma. Oleh karena itu ia mempunyai pengaruh besar di kalangan umat sebagai rasul awam yang terpelajar dan rendah hati. Yosef meninggal dunia pada tahun 1927.

Kis 2:37 Ketika mereka mendengar hal itu hati mereka sangat terharu, lalu mereka bertanya kepada Petrus dan rasul-rasul yang lain: "Apakah yang harus kami perbuat, saudara-saudara?"
Kis 2:38 Jawab Petrus kepada mereka: "Bertobatlah dan hendaklah kamu masing-masing memberi dirimu dibaptis dalam nama Yesus Kristus untuk pengampunan dosamu, maka kamu akan menerima karunia Roh Kudus.
Kis 2:39 Sebab bagi kamulah janji itu dan bagi anak-anakmu dan bagi orang yang masih jauh, yaitu sebanyak yang akan dipanggil oleh Tuhan Allah kita."
Kis 2:40 Dan dengan banyak perkataan lain lagi ia memberi suatu kesaksian yang sungguh-sungguh dan ia mengecam dan menasihati mereka, katanya: "Berilah dirimu diselamatkan dari angkatan yang jahat ini."
Kis 2:41 Orang-orang yang menerima perkataannya itu memberi diri dibaptis dan pada hari itu jumlah mereka bertambah kira-kira tiga ribu jiwa.
Mzm 33:4 Sebab firman TUHAN itu benar, segala sesuatu dikerjakan-Nya dengan kesetiaan.
Mzm 33:5 Ia senang kepada keadilan dan hukum; bumi penuh dengan kasih setia TUHAN.
Mzm 33:18 Sesungguhnya, mata TUHAN tertuju kepada mereka yang takut akan Dia, kepada mereka yang berharap akan kasih setia-Nya,
Mzm 33:19 untuk melepaskan jiwa mereka dari pada maut dan memelihara hidup mereka pada masa kelaparan.
Mzm 33:20 Jiwa kita menanti-nantikan TUHAN. Dialah penolong kita dan perisai kita!
Mzm 33:22 Kasih setia-Mu, ya TUHAN, kiranya menyertai kami, seperti kami berharap kepada-Mu.
Yoh 20:11 Tetapi Maria berdiri dekat kubur itu dan menangis. Sambil menangis ia menjenguk ke dalam kubur itu,
Yoh 20:12 dan tampaklah olehnya dua orang malaikat berpakaian putih, yang seorang duduk di sebelah kepala dan yang lain di sebelah kaki di tempat mayat Yesus terbaring.
Yoh 20:13 Kata malaikat-malaikat itu kepadanya: "Ibu, mengapa engkau menangis?" Jawab Maria kepada mereka: "Tuhanku telah diambil orang dan aku tidak tahu di mana Ia diletakkan."
Yoh 20:14 Sesudah berkata demikian ia menoleh ke belakang dan melihat Yesus berdiri di situ, tetapi ia tidak tahu, bahwa itu adalah Yesus.
Yoh 20:15 Kata Yesus kepadanya: "Ibu, mengapa engkau menangis? Siapakah yang engkau cari?" Maria menyangka orang itu adalah penunggu taman, lalu berkata kepada-Nya: "Tuan, jikalau tuan yang mengambil Dia, katakanlah kepadaku, di mana tuan meletakkan Dia, supaya aku dapat mengambil-Nya."
Yoh 20:16 Kata Yesus kepadanya: "Maria!" Maria berpaling dan berkata kepada-Nya dalam bahasa Ibrani: "Rabuni!", artinya Guru.
Yoh 20:17 Kata Yesus kepadanya: "Janganlah engkau memegang Aku, sebab Aku belum pergi kepada Bapa, tetapi pergilah kepada saudara-saudara-Ku dan katakanlah kepada mereka, bahwa sekarang Aku akan pergi kepada Bapa-Ku dan Bapamu, kepada Allah-Ku dan Allahmu."
Yoh 20:18 Maria Magdalena pergi dan berkata kepada murid-murid: "Aku telah melihat Tuhan!" dan juga bahwa Dia yang mengatakan hal-hal itu kepadanya.
