First Reading : Acts 13:14,43‐52

Paul and his friends carried on from Perga till they reached Antioch in Pisidia. Here they went to synagogue on the sabbath and took their seats. When the meeting broke up many Jews and devout converts joined Paul and Barnabas, and in their talks with them Paul and Barnabas urged them to remain faithful to the grace God had given them. The next sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God. When they saw the crowds, the Jews, prompted by jealousy, used blasphemies and contradicted everything Paul said. Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly. ‘We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, but since you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, we must turn to the pagans. For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light for the nations,
so that my salvation may reach the ends of the earth.’ It made the pagans very happy to hear this and they thanked the Lord for his message; all who were destined for eternal life became believers. Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside. But the Jews worked upon some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of the city and persuaded them to turn against Paul and Barnabas and expel them from their territory. So they shook the dust from their feet in defiance and went off to Iconium; but the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.

Second Reading : Apocalypse 7:9,14‐17

I, John, saw a huge number, impossible to count, of people from every nation, race, tribe and language; they were standing in front of the throne and in front of the Lamb, dressed in white robes and holding palms in their hands. One of the elders said, ‘These are the people who have been through the great persecution, and because they have washed their robes white again in the blood of the Lamb, they now stand in front of God’s throne and serve him day and night in his sanctuary; and the One who sits on the throne will spread his tent over them. They will never hunger or thirst again; neither the sun nor scorching wind will ever plague them, because the Lamb who is at the throne will be their shepherd and will lead them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away all tears from their eyes.’

Gospel : John 10:27‐30

Jesus said: ‘The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me. I give them eternal life; they will never be lost and no one will ever steal them from me. The Father who gave them to me is greater than anyone, and no one can steal from the Father. The Father and I are one.’

The words of the Pope:

The Gospel for today’s Liturgy speaks to us about the bond that exists between the Lord and each one of us (cf. Jn 10:27-30). To do so, Jesus uses a tender image, a beautiful image of the shepherd who stays with the sheep. And he explains it with three verbs: “My sheep”, Jesus says, “hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me” (v. 27). Three verbs: to hear, to know, to follow. Let us take a look at these three verbs.
First of all, the sheep hear the voice of the shepherd. The initiative always comes from the Lord. Everything comes from his grace: it is he who calls us to communion with him. But this communion comes about if we open ourselves to listen. If we are deaf, he cannot grant us this communion. Opening ourselves to listening, because listening means being available, it means docility, it means time dedicated to dialogue. (…)
Listening to Jesus thus becomes the way for us to discover that he knows us. This is the second verb that concerns the Good Shepherd. He knows his sheep. But this does not only mean that he knows many things about us. To know in the biblical sense also means to love. It means that the Lord, “while he reads our inner beings”, loves us, he does not condemn us. If we listen to him, we discover this — that the Lord loves us. The way to discover the Lord’s love is to listen to him. (…)
Lastly, the third verb: the sheep who hear, and who discover they are known, follow : they listen, they feel they are known to the Lord and they follow the Lord who is their shepherd. What do those who follow Christ do? They go where he goes, along the same path, in the same direction. (…) they take an interest in those who are far away, take to heart the situation of those who suffer, know how to weep with those who weep, they reach out their hands to their neighbours, carrying them on their shoulders. And me? Do I let Jesus love me, and from allowing him to love me, do I begin to love him, to imitate him? Santo Ignatius Peis dari Lakoni, Pengaku Iman.

Santo Ignatius lahir di Sardinia pada tahun 1701. Ketika masih muda belia, ia masuk biara Kapusin sebagai seorang bruder. Cara hidup membiara telah menjadi cita-cita hidupnya semenjak kecil. Dengan memilih biara Kapusin, ia bermaksud menjadi seperti Fransiskus Asisi, pewarta Injil yang menghayati imannya dengan hidup miskin demi sesamanya. Pekerjaan setiap hari ialah menjelajahi seluruh kota untuk meminta derma bagi kepentingan biaranya. Pekerjaan ini dijalaninya selama 40 tahun. Sambil berkeliling miminta derma, ia mengajar orang-orang yang ditemuinya tentang Kasih Kristus kepada manusia. Senyum manis yang selalu menghiasi bibirnya mencerminkan kesejahteraan jiwanya. Perkataannya senantiasa membawa penghiburan bagi orang-orang yang bersusah serta menggerakkan hati mereka untuk lebih mencintai Yesus. Santo Ignatius yang dikenal sederhana selalu membagikan sedekah kepada orang-orang yang lebih miskin daripadanya. Ia menjadi rasul dan pewarta Injil Kristus dengan teladan hidupnya, doa-doa dan laku tapanya. Ia meninggal dunia pada tanggal 11 Mei 1781. Oleh Sri Paus Pius XII (1939-1958) , ia dinyatakan ‘Kudus’ pada tahun 1951.

Santa Bertha, Pengaku Iman.

Santa Bertha adalah anak Rigobertus, seorang Pangeran Kerajaan Nuestria, Prancis pada masa pemerintahan raja Clovis II. Hari kelahirannya tidak diketahui dengan pasti. Dikatakan bahwa sepeninggal suaminya, Siegfridus, ia mulai menjalani hidup membiara di Blangy, wilayah Artois, Perancis Utara. Di biara ini, ia menjadi Abbas selama bebarapa tahun sampai saat ajalnya pada tahun 725. Ada banyak cerita tentang santa Bertha namun semuanya kurang dapat dipercaya kebenarannya. Salah satu dari cerita-cerita itu ialah bahwa ia dibunuh oleh anak-anak tirinya sendiri.

Kis 13:14 Dari Perga mereka melanjutkan perjalanan mereka, lalu tiba di Antiokhia di Pisidia. Pada hari Sabat mereka pergi ke rumah ibadat, lalu duduk di situ.
Kis 13:43 Setelah selesai ibadah, banyak orang Yahudi dan penganut-penganut agama Yahudi yang takut akan Allah, mengikuti Paulus dan Barnabas; kedua rasul itu mengajar mereka dan menasihati supaya mereka tetap hidup di dalam kasih karunia Allah.
Kis 13:44 Pada hari Sabat berikutnya datanglah hampir seluruh kota itu berkumpul untuk mendengar firman Allah.
Kis 13:45 Akan tetapi, ketika orang Yahudi melihat orang banyak itu, penuhlah mereka dengan iri hati dan sambil menghujat, mereka membantah apa yang dikatakan oleh Paulus.
Kis 13:46 Tetapi dengan berani Paulus dan Barnabas berkata: "Memang kepada kamulah firman Allah harus diberitakan lebih dahulu, tetapi kamu menolaknya dan menganggap dirimu tidak layak untuk beroleh hidup yang kekal. Karena itu kami berpaling kepada bangsa-bangsa lain.
Kis 13:47 Sebab inilah yang diperintahkan kepada kami: Aku telah menentukan engkau menjadi terang bagi bangsa-bangsa yang tidak mengenal Allah, supaya engkau membawa keselamatan sampai ke ujung bumi."
Kis 13:48 Mendengar itu bergembiralah semua orang yang tidak mengenal Allah dan mereka memuliakan firman Tuhan; dan semua orang yang ditentukan Allah untuk hidup yang kekal, menjadi percaya.
Kis 13:49 Lalu firman Tuhan disiarkan di seluruh daerah itu.
Kis 13:50 Orang-orang Yahudi menghasut perempuan-perempuan terkemuka yang takut akan Allah, dan pembesar-pembesar di kota itu, dan mereka menimbulkan penganiayaan atas Paulus dan Barnabas dan mengusir mereka dari daerah itu.
Kis 13:51 Akan tetapi Paulus dan Barnabas mengebaskan debu kaki mereka sebagai peringatan bagi orang-orang itu, lalu pergi ke Ikonium.

Why 7:14 Maka kataku kepadanya: "Tuanku, tuan mengetahuinya." Lalu ia berkata kepadaku: "Mereka ini adalah orang-orang yang keluar dari kesusahan yang besar; dan mereka telah mencuci jubah mereka dan membuatnya putih di dalam darah Anak Domba.
Why 7:15 Karena itu mereka berdiri di hadapan takhta Allah dan melayani Dia siang malam di Bait Suci-Nya. Dan Ia yang duduk di atas takhta itu akan membentangkan kemah-Nya di atas mereka.
Why 7:16 Mereka tidak akan menderita lapar dan dahaga lagi, dan matahari atau panas terik tidak akan menimpa mereka lagi.
Why 7:17 Sebab Anak Domba yang di tengah-tengah takhta itu, akan menggembalakan mereka dan akan menuntun mereka ke mata air kehidupan. Dan Allah akan menghapus segala air mata dari mata mereka."
Yoh 10:27 Domba-domba-Ku mendengarkan suara-Ku dan Aku mengenal mereka dan mereka mengikut Aku,
Yoh 10:28 dan Aku memberikan hidup yang kekal kepada mereka dan mereka pasti tidak akan binasa sampai selama-lamanya dan seorangpun tidak akan merebut mereka dari tangan-Ku.
Yoh 10:29 Bapa-Ku, yang memberikan mereka kepada-Ku, lebih besar dari pada siapapun, dan seorangpun tidak dapat merebut mereka dari tangan Bapa.
