Saint Fillan is the patron saint of the mentally ill. He was born in 7th-century Ireland, and his family later moved to Scotland. At a very young age, he became a monk and later an abbot. Around the beginning of the 8th century, he moved to Pittenweem in Fife, east of Scotland. Although he spent most of his life as a hermit, the saint built Churches in Galloway, Islay, and Glendochart. In Pittenweem, he is traditionally believed to have stayed in a cave where the Holy Pool was said to heal the mentally ill, hence the patronage.
St. Fillan, pray for the healing and well-being of all struggling with mental ailments.
