The Catholic Church traditionally dedicates the month of July to the Precious Blood of Jesus.
This devotion has been recognized for centuries, dating back to Christ’s death on the Cross. Many saints were devoted to the Precious Blood of Jesus, particularly Saint Catherine of Siena, Saint Mary Magdalen de Pazzi, and Saint Gaspar del Bufalo.
Saint Gaspar del Bufalo, founder of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, and promoter of the devotion, said,
“We must let it be known how the Blood of Christ cleanses the souls and sanctifies them, particularly by means of the sacraments.”
Pope Pius IX officially instituted a feast dedicated to the Most Precious Blood of Jesus Christ in 1849.
Pope Pius X later assigned July 1 as the designated feast. However, after Vatican II, the Catholic Church traditionally dedicated the entire month of July to the Precious Blood.
Many graces can be obtained from this devotion, including spiritual protection, healing, deliverance from evil, growth in virtue, and a deeper understanding of God's mercy and love.
