St. Timothy was a disciple of St. Paul, preaching the Gospel and suffering for it with Paul. He was born in Listra to a Greek father and a Jewish mother. Converted by St. Paul around 47 AD, Timothy later joined him in the apostolic work. For 15 years, he worked with Paul and became one of his most trusted friends. He assisted Paul in instituting the Church in Corinth and helped him deal with a great disturbance in the local churches that Paul had founded. St. Titus was a disciple and a fellow missionary of St.Paul. He was Greek, apparently from Antioch, but Paul would not let him be forced to undergo circumcision at Jerusalem. Titus is seen as a peacemaker, administrator, and a great friend to Paul. The second letter to Corinth provides insight into the depth of their friendship and their great fellowship in preaching the Gospel. Paul writes that he was strengthened not only by the arrival of Titus but also "by the encouragement with which he was encouraged in regard to you, as he told us of your yearning, your lament, your zeal for me, so that I rejoiced even more" (2 Corinthians 7:7). "In his two collaborators, Paul unites the men of circumcision and the men of non-circumcision; the men of the law and the men of the faith." (Vatican Archives). Paul wrote two letters to Timothy and one to Titus. They are the only two letters of the New Testament addressed not to communities but to people. According to Pope Benedict XVI, Timothy and Titus "teach us to serve the Gospel with generosity, knowing that this also involves a service to the Church itself." Saints Timothy and Titus are the Patron Saints of relief from stomach disorders.
Saints Timothy and Titus, adorned with apostolic virtues, pray for us to live justly and devoutly in this present age, that we may merit reaching our heavenly homeland.
