First Reading : 

Leviticus 19:1‐2,11‐18

The Lord spoke to Moses; he said: ‘Speak to the whole community of the sons of Israel and say to them:

‘“Be holy, for I, the Lord your God, am holy.

‘“You must not steal nor deal deceitfully or fraudulently with your neighbour. You must not swear falsely by my name, profaning the name of your God. I am the Lord. You must not exploit or rob your neighbour. You must not keep back the labourer’s wage until next morning. You must not curse the dumb, nor put an obstacle in the blind man’s way, but you must fear your God. I am the Lord.

‘“You must not be guilty of unjust verdicts. You must neither be partial to the little man nor overawed by the great; you must pass judgement on your neighbour according to justice. You must not slander your own people, and you must not jeopardise your neighbour’s life. I am the Lord. You must not bear hatred for your brother in your heart. You must openly tell him, your neighbour, of his offence; this way you will not take a sin upon yourself. You must not exact vengeance, nor must you bear a grudge against the children of your people. You must love your neighbour as yourself. I am the Lord.”’

Matthew 25:31‐46

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘When the Son of Man comes in his glory, escorted by all the angels, then he will take his seat on his throne of glory. All the nations will be assembled before him and he will separate men one from another as the shepherd separates sheep from goats. He will place the sheep on his right hand and the goats on his left.

‘Then the King will say to those on his right hand, “Come, you whom my Father has blessed, take for your heritage the kingdom prepared for you since the foundation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me drink; I was a stranger and you made me welcome; naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me.” Then the virtuous will say to him in reply, “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you; or thirsty and give you drink? When did we see you a stranger and make you welcome; naked and clothe you; sick or in prison and go to see you?” And the King will answer, “I tell you solemnly, in so far as you did this to one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did it to me.”

‘Next he will say to those on his left hand, “Go away from me, with your curse upon you, to the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. For I was hungry and you never gave me food; I was thirsty and you never gave me anything to drink; I was a stranger and you never made me welcome, naked and you never clothed me, sick and in prison and you never visited me.” Then it will be their turn to ask, “Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty, a stranger or naked, sick or in prison, and did not come to your help?” Then he will answer, “I tell you solemnly, in so far as you neglected to do this to one of the least of these, you neglected to do it to me.”

‘And they will go away to eternal punishment, and the virtuous to eternal life.’

Words of the Holy Father:

In Gospel of the day, Jesus identifies himself not only with the king-shepherd, but also with the lost sheep, we can speak of a “double identity”: the king-shepherd, Jesus identifies also with the sheep: that is, with the least and most needy of his brothers and sisters. And he thus indicates the criterion of the judgement: it will be made on the basis of concrete love given or denied to these persons, because he himself, the judge, is present in each one of them. He is the judge. He is God-Man, but he is also the poor one. He is hidden and present in the person of the poor people that he mentions right there. Jesus says: “Truly, I say to you, as you did it (or did it not) to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it (you did it not) to me” (cf. vv. 40, 45). We will be judged on love. The judgement will be on love, not on feelings, no: we will be judged on works, on compassion that becomes nearness and kind help. (Angelus, 22 November 2020)

Santo Yohanes, Biarawan.

Biarawan ini memiliki kegemaran membaca buku-buku perdukunan sehingga ia sendiri melakukan praktek-praktek klinik perdukunan secara gelap. Oleh teman-temannya ia dituduh bertahayul dan dimasukkan ke dalam tahanan biara di sebuah ruangan yang sangat kotor. Menyadari perbuatannya yang melawan ajaran iman ini, ia bertobat dan mengakui kesalahan-kesalahannya. Untuk menebus dosa-dosanya, ia melakukan puasa dan tapa yang keras diruang tahanan yang pengap itu. Melihat pertobatannya yang mendalam itu, kawan-kawannya mengajak dia kembali ke dalam kehidupan normal di dalam komunitas biara. Tetapi ia lebih suka bermatiraga keras di dalam ruang tahanan itu hingga menghembuskan nafas terakhirnya. Ia banyak menulis dan menjadi seorang pengarang yang terkenal. Ia meninggal pada tahun 1380.

Im 19:1 TUHAN berfirman kepada Musa:

Im 19:2 "Berbicaralah kepada segenap jemaah Israel dan katakan kepada mereka: Kuduslah kamu, sebab Aku, TUHAN, Allahmu, kudus.

Im 19:11 Janganlah kamu mencuri, janganlah kamu berbohong dan janganlah kamu berdusta seorang kepada sesamanya.

Im 19:12 Janganlah kamu bersumpah dusta demi nama-Ku, supaya engkau jangan melanggar kekudusan nama Allahmu; Akulah TUHAN.

Im 19:13 Janganlah engkau memeras sesamamu manusia dan janganlah engkau merampas; janganlah kautahan upah seorang pekerja harian sampai besok harinya.

Im 19:14 Janganlah kaukutuki orang tuli dan di depan orang buta janganlah kautaruh batu sandungan, tetapi engkau harus takut akan Allahmu; Akulah TUHAN.

Im 19:15 Janganlah kamu berbuat curang dalam peradilan; janganlah engkau membela orang kecil dengan tidak sewajarnya dan janganlah engkau terpengaruh oleh orang-orang besar, tetapi engkau harus mengadili orang sesamamu dengan kebenaran.

Im 19:16 Janganlah engkau pergi kian ke mari menyebarkan fitnah di antara orang-orang sebangsamu; janganlah engkau mengancam hidup sesamamu manusia; Akulah TUHAN.

Im 19:17 Janganlah engkau membenci saudaramu di dalam hatimu, tetapi engkau harus berterus terang menegor orang sesamamu dan janganlah engkau mendatangkan dosa kepada dirimu karena dia.

Im 19:18 Janganlah engkau menuntut balas, dan janganlah menaruh dendam terhadap orang-orang sebangsamu, melainkan kasihilah sesamamu manusia seperti dirimu sendiri; Akulah TUHAN.

Mzm 19:8 (19-9) Titah TUHAN itu tepat, menyukakan hati; perintah TUHAN itu murni, membuat mata bercahaya.

Mzm 19:9 (19-10) Takut akan TUHAN itu suci, tetap ada untuk selamanya; hukum-hukum TUHAN itu benar, adil semuanya,

Mzm 19:10 (19-11) lebih indah dari pada emas, bahkan dari pada banyak emas tua; dan lebih manis dari pada madu, bahkan dari pada madu tetesan dari sarang lebah.

Mat 25:31 "Apabila Anak Manusia datang dalam kemuliaan-Nya dan semua malaikat bersama-sama dengan Dia, maka Ia akan bersemayam di atas takhta kemuliaan-Nya.

Mat 25:32 Lalu semua bangsa akan dikumpulkan di hadapan-Nya dan Ia akan memisahkan mereka seorang dari pada seorang, sama seperti gembala memisahkan domba dari kambing,

Mat 25:33 dan Ia akan menempatkan domba-domba di sebelah kanan-Nya dan kambing-kambing di sebelah kiri-Nya.

Mat 25:34 Dan Raja itu akan berkata kepada mereka yang di sebelah kanan-Nya: Mari, hai kamu yang diberkati oleh Bapa-Ku, terimalah Kerajaan yang telah disediakan bagimu sejak dunia dijadikan.

Mat 25:35 Sebab ketika Aku lapar, kamu memberi Aku makan; ketika Aku haus, kamu memberi Aku minum; ketika Aku seorang asing, kamu memberi Aku tumpangan;

Mat 25:36 ketika Aku telanjang, kamu memberi Aku pakaian; ketika Aku sakit, kamu melawat Aku; ketika Aku di dalam penjara, kamu mengunjungi Aku.

Mat 25:37 Maka orang-orang benar itu akan menjawab Dia, katanya: Tuhan, bilamanakah kami melihat Engkau lapar dan kami memberi Engkau makan, atau haus dan kami memberi Engkau minum?

Mat 25:38 Bilamanakah kami melihat Engkau sebagai orang asing, dan kami memberi Engkau tumpangan, atau telanjang dan kami memberi Engkau pakaian?

Mat 25:42 Sebab ketika Aku lapar, kamu tidak memberi Aku makan; ketika Aku haus, kamu tidak memberi Aku minum;

Mat 25:43 ketika Aku seorang asing, kamu tidak memberi Aku tumpangan; ketika Aku telanjang, kamu tidak memberi Aku pakaian; ketika Aku sakit dan dalam penjara, kamu tidak melawat Aku.

Mat 25:44 Lalu merekapun akan menjawab Dia, katanya: Tuhan, bilamanakah kami melihat Engkau lapar, atau haus, atau sebagai orang asing, atau telanjang atau sakit, atau dalam penjara dan kami tidak melayani Engkau?

Mat 25:45 Maka Ia akan menjawab mereka: Aku berkata kepadamu, sesungguhnya segala sesuatu yang tidak kamu lakukan untuk salah seorang dari yang paling hina ini, kamu tidak melakukannya juga untuk Aku.

Mat 25:46 Dan mereka ini akan masuk ke tempat siksaan yang kekal, tetapi orang benar ke dalam hidup yang kekal."
