3 December 2025 (Rabu) / Pesta Santo Fransiskus Xaverius

3 December 2025 (Rabu)

Pesta Santo Fransiskus Xaverius.

Pembacaan dari Alkitab Gereja Katolik Roma:

Pembacaan Pertama: 1Kor 9:16-19.22-23;
Pembacaan Mazmur: Mzm 117:1.2;
Pembacaan dari Injil Santo Markus: Mrk 16:15-20.
Warna Liturgi Putih.

Pembacaan Pertama:

1Kor 9:16
1Kor 9:17
Kalau andaikata aku melakukannya menurut kehendakku sendiri, memang aku berhak menerima upah.
1Kor 9:18
Kalau demikian apakah upahku?

Pembacaan Mazmur:

Mzm 117:1
Pujilah TUHAN, hai segala bangsa, megahkanlah Dia, hai segala suku bangsa!
Mzm 117:2

Readings from the Bible of the Roman Catholic Church:

First Reading: Isaiah 25: 6-10
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 23: 1-6
Gospel: Matthew 15: 29-37

First Reading: Isaiah 25: 6-10

And the Lord of hosts shall make unto all people in this mountain, a feast of fat things, a feast of wine, of fat things full of marrow, of wine purified from the lees. And he shall destroy in this mountain the face of the bond with which all people were tied, and the web that he began over all nations. He shall cast death down headlong for ever: and the Lord God shall wipe away tears from every face, and the reproach of his people he shall take away from off the whole earth: for the Lord hath spoken it. And they shall say in that day: Lo, this is our God, we have waited for him, and he will save us: this is the Lord, we have patiently waited for him, we shall rejoice and be joyfull in his salvation. For the hand of the Lord shall rest in this mountain.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 23: 1-6

R. (6) I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

The Lord ruleth me: and I shall want nothing. He hath set me in a place of pasture. He hath brought me up, on the water of refreshment: He hath converted my soul.

R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

He hath led me on the paths of justice, for his own name’s sake. For though I should walk in the midst of the shadow of death, I will fear no evils, for thou art with me. Thy rod and thy staff, they have comforted me.

R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

Thou hast prepared a table before me against them that afflict me. Thou hast anointed my head with oil; and my chalice which inebriateth me, how goodly is it!

R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

And thy mercy will follow me all the days of my life. And that I may dwell in the house of the Lord unto length of days.

R. I shall live in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.

Alleluia
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Behold, the Lord comes to save his people; blessed are those prepared to meet him.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel: Matthew 15: 29-37

And when Jesus had passed away from thence, he came nigh the sea of Galilee. And going up into a mountain, he sat there. And there came to him great multitudes, having with them the dumb, the blind, the lame, the maimed, and many others: and they cast them down at his feet, and he healed them: So that the multitudes marvelled seeing the dumb speak, the lame walk, and the blind see: and they glorified the God of Israel. And Jesus called together his disciples, and said: I have compassion on the multitudes, because they continue with me now three days, and have not what to eat, and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way. And the disciples say unto him: Whence then should we have so many loaves in the desert, as to fill so great a multitude? And Jesus said to them: How many loaves have you? But they said: Seven, and a few little fishes. And he commanded the multitude to sit down upon the ground. And taking the seven loaves and the fishes, and giving thanks, he brake, and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the people. And they did all eat, and had their fill. And they took up seven baskets full, of what remained of the fragments.

For our reflection today:

Today, in place of the crowds mentioned in the Gospel, entire peoples are suffering more as a result of the greed of others than from their own hunger. In stark contrast to the dire poverty of many, the amassing of wealth by a few is the sign of an arrogant indifference that produces pain and injustice. Rather than sharing, it squanders the fruits of the earth and human labour. Especially in this Jubilee Year, the Lord’s example is a yardstick that should guide our actions and our service: we are called to share our bread, to multiply hope and to proclaim the coming of God’s Kingdom. In saving the crowds from hunger, Jesus proclaims that he will save everyone from death. That is the mystery of faith, which we celebrate in the sacrament of the Eucharist. For just as hunger is a sign of our radical needs in this life, so breaking bread is a sign of God’s gift of salvation. Christ is God’s answer to our human hunger, because his Body is the bread of eternal life: Take this and eat of it, all of you! Saint Andrew, son of Jonah

St. Andrew, son of Jonah, was the elder brother of St. Peter. Born in Bethsaida on the shores of the Galilee Sea, Peter and Andrew were fishermen. He became a follower of St. John the Baptist until Jesus was introduced to him as the Messiah. St. Andrew was the first apostle called by our Lord. St Bede called St. Andrew the "Introducer to Christ" as he introduced not only Peter to our Lord but many others, including the boy with the loaves and the Greeks to Christ. After the  Ascension of our Lord, St. Andrew preached the faith of Christ in  Galatia, Cappadocia, Bithynia, and  Greece. He succumbed to martyrdom on November 30, 60 A.D., in Patras during the reign of Emperor Nero. Andrew desired to be killed on a "saltire" cross (a diagonal cross in the shape of an "X") because he did not consider himself worthy to die on a cross like Christ. He was also bound, not nailed, to prolong his suffering. St. Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland, evidenced by the saltire St. Andrew's Cross on that nation's flag. Many other countries (such as Russia, Romania, and Ukraine) claim Andrew as their patron saint, too, and he is the patron saint of fishermen. The Christmas Novena, better known as the St. Andrew Novena, begins on November 30. The Novena consists of saying this prayer 15 times daily until Christmas:
"Hail and blessed be the hour and moment in which the Son of God was born of the most pure Virgin Mary, at midnight, in Bethlehem, in piercing cold. In that hour, vouchsafe, O my God, to hear my prayer and grant my desires, through the merits of Our Savior Jesus Christ, and of His Blessed Mother. Amen."

St. Andrew, pray for us that we may long to introduce Christ to those who do not know Him and those seeking to know Him better. Amen.

30 November 2025 (Sunday) / 1st Sunday of Advent

30 November 2025 (Sunday)

1st Sunday of Advent.

Readings from the Bible of the Roman Catholic Church:

First Reading: Isaiah 2: 1-5
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 122: 1-9
Second Reading: Romans 13: 11-14
Alleluia: Psalms 85: 8
Gospel: Matthew 24: 37-44

First Reading : Isaiah 2:1‐5

The vision of Isaiah son of Amoz, concerning Judah and Jerusalem. In the days to come the mountain of the Temple of the Lord shall tower above the mountains and be lifted higher than the hills. All the nations will stream to it, peoples without number will come to it; and they will say: ‘Come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the Temple of the God of Jacob that he may teach us his ways so that we may walk in his paths; since the Law will go out from Zion, and the oracle of the Lord from Jerusalem.’ He will wield authority over the nations and adjudicate between many peoples; these will hammer their swords into ploughshares, their spears into sickles. Nation will not lift sword against nation, there will be no more training for war. O House of Jacob, come, let us walk in the light of the Lord.

Responsive Psalm : Psalm 121(122):1‐2,4‐5,6‐9

I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’
I rejoiced when I heard them say:
‘Let us go to God’s house.’
And now our feet are standing
  within your gates, O Jerusalem.
I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’
It is there that the tribes go up,
  the tribes of the Lord.
For Israel’s law it is,
there to praise the Lord’s name.
There were set the thrones of judgement
  of the house of David.
I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’
For the peace of Jerusalem pray:
  ‘Peace be to your homes!
May peace reign in your walls,
  in your palaces, peace!’
I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’
For love of my brethren and friends
  I say: ‘Peace upon you!’
For love of the house of the Lord
I will ask for your good.
I rejoiced when I heard them say: ‘Let us go to God’s house.’

Second Reading : Romans 13:11‐14

You know ‘the time’ has come: you must wake up now: our salvation is even nearer than it was when we were converted. The night is almost over, it will be daylight soon – let us give up all the things we prefer to do under cover of the dark; let us arm ourselves and appear in the light. Let us live decently as people do in the daytime: no drunken orgies, no promiscuity or licentiousness, and no wrangling or jealousy. Let your armour be the Lord Jesus Christ.

Alleluia: Psalms 85: 8
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
8 Show us Lord, your love; and grant us your salvation.
(1. [For the choirmaster Of the sons of Korah Psalm] Yahweh, you are gracious to your land, you bring back the captives of Jacob,
2. you take away the guilt of your people, you blot out all their sin.
3. You retract all your anger, you renounce the heat of your fury.
4. Bring us back, God our Saviour, appease your indignation against us!
5. Will you be angry with us for ever? Will you prolong your wrath age after age?
6. Will you not give us life again, for your people to rejoice in you?
7. Show us, Lord, your faithful love, grant us your saving help.
8. I am listening. What is God's message? Yahweh's message is peace for his people, for his faithful, if only they renounce their folly.
9. His saving help is near for those who fear him, his glory will dwell in our land.
10. Faithful Love and Loyalty join together, Saving Justice and Peace embrace.
11. Loyalty will spring up from the earth, and Justice will lean down from heaven.
12. Yahweh will himself give prosperity, and our soil will yield its harvest.
13. Justice will walk before him, treading out a path).
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel : Matthew 24:37‐44

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘As it was in Noah’s day, so will it be when the Son of Man comes. For in those days before the Flood people were eating, drinking, taking wives, taking husbands, right up to the day Noah went into the ark, and they suspected nothing till the Flood came and swept all away. It will be like this when the Son of Man comes. Then of two men in the fields one is taken, one left; of two women at the millstone grinding, one is taken, one left. ‘So stay awake, because you do not know the day when your master is coming. You may be quite sure of this, that if the householder had known at what time of the night the burglar would come, he would have stayed awake and would not have allowed anyone to break through the wall of his house. Therefore, you too must stand ready because the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.’

For our reflection today:

Today Advent begins, the liturgical time which prepares us for Christmas, inviting us to lift our gaze and open our hearts to welcome Jesus. During Advent we do not just live in anticipation of Christmas; we are also called to rekindle the anticipation of the glorious return of Christ — when he will return at the end of time — preparing ourselves, with consistent and courageous choices, for the final encounter with him. We remember Christmas, we await the glorious return of Christ, and also our personal encounter: the day in which the Lord will call. During these four weeks we are called to leave behind a resigned and routine way of life and to go forth, nourishing hope, nourishing dreams for a new future. This is a favourable time to open our hearts, to ask ourselves concrete questions about how and for whom we expend our lives. (Pope Francis, Angelus, 2 December 2018)

Yes 11:2
Roh TUHAN akan ada padanya, roh hikmat dan pengertian, roh nasihat dan keperkasaan, roh pengenalan dan takut akan TUHAN;
Yes 11:3

Mzm 72:12
Sebab ia akan melepaskan orang miskin yang berteriak minta tolong, orang yang tertindas, dan orang yang tidak punya penolong;
Mzm 72:13

Readings from the Bible of the Roman Catholic Church:

First Reading: Isaiah 11: 1-10
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 72: 1-2, 7-8, 12-13, 17
Gospel: Luke 10: 21-24

First Reading: Isaiah 11: 1-10

And there shall come forth a rod out of the root of Jesse, and a flower shall rise up out of his root. And the spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him: the spirit of wisdom, and of understanding, the spirit of counsel, and of fortitude, the spirit of knowledge, and of godliness. And he shall be filled with the spirit of the fear of the Lord. He shall not judge according to the sight of the eyes, nor reprove according to the hearing of the ears. But he shall judge the poor with justice, and shall reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: land he shall strike the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips he shall slay the wicked. And justice shall be the girdle of his loins: and faith the girdle of his reins. The wolf shall dwell with the lamb: and the leopard shall lie down with the kid: the calf and the lion, and the sheep shall abide together, and a little child shall lead them. The calf and the bear shall feed: their young ones shall rest together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox. And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp: and the weaned child shall thrust his hand into the den of the basilisk. They shall not hurt, nor shall they kill in all my holy mountain, for the earth is filled with the knowledge of the Lord, as the covering waters of the sea. In that day the root of Jesse, who standeth for an ensign of the people, him the Gentiles shall beseech, and his sepulchre shall be glorious.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 72: 1-2, 7-8, 12-13, 17

R. (7) Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.

Give to the king thy judgment, O God: and to the king’s son thy justice: To judge thy people with justice, and thy poor with judgment.

R. Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.

In his days shall justice spring up, and abundance of peace, till the moon be taken sway. And he shall rule from sea to sea, and from the river unto the ends of the earth.

R. Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.

For he shall deliver the poor from the mighty: and the needy that had no helper. He shall spare the poor and needy: and he shall save the souls of the poor.

R. Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.

Let his name be blessed for evermore: his name continueth before the sun. And in him shall all the tribes of the earth be blessed: all nations shall magnify him.

R. Justice shall flourish in his time, and fullness of peace for ever.

Alleluia
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
Behold, our Lord shall come with power; he will enlighten the eyes of his servants.
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel: Luke 10: 21-24

In that same hour, he rejoiced in the Holy Ghost, and said: I confess to thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hidden these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them to little ones. Yea, Father, for so it hath seemed good in thy sight. All things are delivered to me by my Father; and no one knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and to whom the Son will reveal him. And turning to his disciples, he said: Blessed are the eyes that see the things which you see. For I say to you, that many prophets and kings have desired to see the things that you see, and have not seen them; and to hear the things that you hear, and have not heard them.

For our reflection today:

The little ones are those who, like children, feel their need and are not self-sufficient. They are open to God and allow themselves to be amazed at his works. They know how to read his signs, to marvel at the miracles of his love! Our lives are filled with miracles. They are filled with deeds of love, signs of God’s goodness. Before these, however, even our hearts can remain indifferent and become habitual, curious but not capable of being amazed, of allowing themselves to be “impressed”. A closed heart, an armoured heart, is incapable of being amazed. To impress is a beautiful verb that brings to mind photographic film. This is the correct behaviour to have before God’s works: to take a photograph of his works in our minds so that they may be impressed in our hearts, and then developed in our lives through many good deeds, so that this “photograph” of God, who is love, becomes ever brighter in us and through us. (Pope Francis, Angelus, 9 July 2023)

Saint Saturninus

St. Saturninus was the first bishop of Toulouse, one of the most illustrious martyrs France has given to the Church. Amid a turbulent era, St. Saturninus ascended as a notable figure, assuming the role of the inaugural bishop of Toulouse circa 250 during the consulship of Decius and Gratus. Upon his arrival in Toulouse,  his preaching made numerous conversions. In no time, he established a small church. To access it, he had to walk past the capital, where a temple stood. According to the Acts, the pagan priests attributed the silence of their oracles to his frequent passages. The turning point in St. Saturninus's life occurred when he was seized by these pagan priests. Despite relentless pressure, he steadfastly refused to sacrifice to the idols. In a cruel act of punishment, he was tied by the feet to a bull, which then dragged him through the town until the rope ultimately broke. The remains of the saint were tenderly collected by two Christian women, who, out of reverence, buried them in a deep ditch to prevent desecration by pagans. Subsequent bishops, Sts. Hilary and Exuperius, recognized the sanctity of St. Saturninus and accorded him a more honorable burial. A church was constructed at the location where the bull ceased its brutal course, and it is known today as the Church of the Taur (the bull). This Church still stands, bearing witness to the enduring legacy of the saint. The body of St. Saturninus was moved to the Church of St. Sernin, renowned as one of the oldest and most exquisite in Southern France.

St. Saturninus, illustrious martyr of Toulouse,  pray that your steadfast faith inspires us and that your courage in the face of adversity strengthens our resolve.

Readings from the Bible of the Roman Catholic Church:

First Reading: Daniel 7: 15-27
Responsorial Psalm: Daniel 3: 82-87
Alleluia: Luke 21: 36
Gospel: Luke 21: 34-36

First Reading : Daniel 7:15‐27

I, Daniel, was deeply disturbed and the visions that passed through my head alarmed me. So I approached one of those who were standing by and asked him to tell me the truth about all this. And in reply he revealed to me what these things meant. “These four great beasts are four kings who will rise from the earth. Those who are granted sovereignty are the saints of the Most High, and the kingdom will be theirs for ever, for ever and ever.” Then I asked to know the truth about the fourth beast, different from all the rest, very terrifying, with iron teeth and bronze claws, eating, crushing and trampling underfoot what remained; and the truth about the ten horns on its head – and why the other horn sprouted and the three original horns fell, and why this horn had eyes and a mouth that was full of boasts, and why it made a greater show than the other horns. This was the horn I had watched making war on the saints and proving the stronger, until the coming of the one of great age who gave judgement in favour of the saints of the Most High, when the time came for the saints to take over the kingdom. This is what he said: ‘The fourth beast is to be a fourth kingdom on earth, different from all other kingdoms. It will devour the whole earth, trample it underfoot and crush it. As for the ten horns: from this kingdom will rise ten kings, and another after them; this one will be different from the previous ones and will bring down three kings; he is going to speak words against the Most High, and harass the saints of the Most High. He will consider changing seasons and the Law, and the saints will be put into his power for a time, two times, and half a time. But a court will be held and his power will be stripped from him, consumed, and utterly destroyed. And sovereignty and kingship, and the splendours of all the kingdoms under heaven will be given to the people of the saints of the Most High. His sovereignty is an eternal sovereignty and every empire will serve and obey him.’

Responsive Psalm : Daniel 3:82‐87

Sons of men! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Israel! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Priests! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Servants of the Lord! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Spirits and souls of the virtuous! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Devout and humble‐hearted men! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!

Alleluia: Luke 21: 36
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
36 Be vigilant at all times and pray That you may have the strength to stand before the Son of Man.
(36. Stay awake, praying at all times for the strength to survive all that is going to happen, and to hold your ground before the Son of man.')
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel : Luke 21:34‐36

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘Watch yourselves, or your hearts will be coarsened with debauchery and drunkenness and the cares of life, and that day will be sprung on you suddenly, like a trap. For it will come down on every living man on the face of the earth. Stay awake, praying at all times for the strength to survive all that is going to happen, and to stand with confidence before the Son of Man.’

For our reflection today:

“Be vigilant”: vigilance. Let us focus on this important aspect of the Christian life. From the words of Christ, we see that vigilance is tied to alertness: be alert, do not get distracted, that is, stay awake! Vigilance means this: not to allow our hearts to become lazy or our spiritual life to soften into mediocrity. And let us add an essential ingredient: the secret to being vigilant is prayer. In fact, Jesus says: “Be vigilant at all times and pray” (Lk 21:36). Prayer is what keeps the lamp of the heart lit. This is especially true when we feel that our enthusiasm has cooled down. Prayer re-lights it, because it brings us back to God, to the center of things. Prayer reawakens the soul from sleep and focuses it on what matters, on the purpose of existence. Even during our busiest days, we must not neglect prayer. The prayer of the heart can be helpful for us, repeating often brief invocations. We could make a habit of saying, “Come, Lord Jesus.” Only these words, but repeating them: “Come, Lord Jesus”. (Pope Francis, Angelus, 28 November 2021)

1 December 2025 (Monday)

Monday of the First Week of Advent.

Readings from the Bible of the Roman Catholic Church:

First Reading: Isaiah 4: 2-6
Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 122: 1-9
Alleluia: Psalms 80: 4
Gospel: Matthew 8: 5-11

First Reading: Isaiah 4: 2-6

In that day the bud of the Lord shall be in magnificence and glory, and the fruit of the earth shall be high, and a great joy to them that shall have escaped of Israel. And it shall come to pass, that every one that shall be left in Sion, and that shall remain in Jerusalem, shall be called holy, every one that is written in life in Jerusalem. If the Lord shall wash away the filth of the daughters of Sion, and shall wash away the blood of Jerusalem out of the midst thereof, by the spirit of judgment, and by the spirit of burning. And the Lord will create upon every place of mount Sion, and where he is called upon, a cloud by day, and a smoke and the brightness of a flaming fire in the night: for over all the glory shall be a protection. And there shall be a tabernacle for a shade in the daytime from the heat, and for a security and covert from the whirlwind, and from rain.

Responsorial Psalm: Psalms 122: 1-9

R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

I rejoiced at the things that were said to me: We shall go into the house of the Lord. Our feet were standing in thy courts, O Jerusalem.

R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

Jerusalem, which is built as a city, which is compact together. For thither did the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord.

R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

The testimony of Israel, to praise the name of the Lord. Because their seats have sat in judgment, seats upon the house of David.

R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

Pray ye for the things that are for the peace of Jerusalem: and abundance for them that love thee. Let peace be in thy strength: and abundance in thy towers.

R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

For the sake of my brethren, and of my neighbours, I spoke peace of thee. Because of the house of the Lord our God, I have sought good things for thee.

R. Let us go rejoicing to the house of the Lord.

Alleluia: Psalms 80: 4
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
4 Come and save us, LORD our God; let your face shine upon us, that we may be saved.
(1. [For the choirmaster Tune: 'The decrees are lilies' Of Asaph Psalm] Shepherd of Israel, listen, you who lead Joseph like a flock, enthroned on the winged creatures, shine forth
2. over Ephraim, Benjamin and Manasseh; rouse your valour and come to our help.
3. God, bring us back, let your face shine on us and we shall be safe.
4. Yahweh, God Sabaoth, how long will you flare up at your people's prayer?
5. You have made tears their food, redoubled tears their drink.
6. You let our neighbours quarrel over us, our enemies mock us.
7. God Sabaoth, bring us back, let your face shine on us and we shall be safe.
8. You brought a vine out of Egypt, to plant it you drove out nations;
9. you cleared a space for it, it took root and filled the whole country.
10. The mountains were covered with its shade, and the cedars of God with its branches,
11. its boughs stretched as far as the sea, its shoots as far as the River.
12. Why have you broken down its fences? Every passer-by plucks its grapes,
13. boars from the forest tear at it, wild beasts feed on it.
14. God Sabaoth, come back, we pray, look down from heaven and see, visit this vine;
15. protect what your own hand has planted.
16. They have thrown it on the fire like dung, the frown of your rebuke will destroy them.
17. May your hand protect those at your side, the child of Adam you have strengthened for yourself!
18. Never again will we turn away from you, give us life and we will call upon your name.
19. God Sabaoth, bring us back, let your face shine on us and we shall be safe).

Gospel: Matthew 8: 5-11

And when he had entered into Capharnaum, there came to him a centurion, beseeching him, and saying, Lord, my servant lieth at home sick of the palsy, and is grieviously tormented. And Jesus saith to him: I will come and heal him. And the centurion making answer, said: Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldst enter under my roof: but only say the word, and my servant shall be healed. For I also am a man subject to authority, having under me soldiers; and I say to this, Go, and he goeth, and to another, Come, and he cometh, and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it. And Jesus hearing this, marvelled; and said to them that followed him: Amen I say to you, I have not found so great faith in Israel. And I say to you that many shall come from the east and the west, and shall sit down with Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.

For our reflection today:

In the passage we have heard, the Lord marvelled at the centurion. He marvelled at his faith. The centurion made a journey to meet the Lord, but he made it in faith. He not only encountered the Lord, but he came to know the joy of being encountered by him. And this is precisely the sort of encounter we desire, the encounter of faith. When we go out to meet the Lord, we in some sense are “masters of the moment”. However, “when we allow ourselves to be encountered by him, he enters into us” and renews us from within. “This is what it means for Christ to come: to renew all things, to renew hearts, souls, lives, hope and the journey”. We are like this centurion on a pilgrimage of faith. To encounter the Lord, and also to allow ourselves to be encountered by him. (Pope Francis, Santa Marta, 2 December 2013)

Saint James of the Marches

St. James of the Marches was born to a humble family named Gangala in March of Ancona, Italy, in 1391. He left an indelible mark on the Franciscan Order and the Christian world. He lived a life of poverty, humility, and unwavering dedication to God, committed to the principles of the Franciscan way. Initiating his education at Offida under the guidance of his uncle, a priest, St. James continued his studies at Ascoli and later obtained a Doctorate in Civil Law from the University of Perugia. His path, however, took a spiritual turn when he became a member of the Friars Minor in the chapel of the Portiuncula, Assisi, on July 26, 1416. After his novitiate at the Carceri hermitage near Assisi, St. James studied theology in Fiesole under St. Bernardine of Siena. Ordained on June 13, 1420, he spent fifty years preaching in Tuscany, the Marches, and Umbria, performing miracles and facilitating conversions. His influence spread across Europe as he preached penance and fought heresy, playing a key role in promoting unity during the Council of Basle and the Council of Ferrara-Florence, seeking reconciliation with moderate Hussites and Greeks. Throughout his life, St. James demonstrated resilience in the face of internal challenges within the Franciscan Order. As a member of the Observant branch, he faced envy and opposition, as evidenced in a letter to St. John Capistran. His involvement in arbitrating disputes between Conventuals and Observants in 1455 reflected his commitment to maintaining unity within the Order. St. James spent his last three years in Naples, buried in the Franciscan church of S. Maria la Nuova. Beatified in 1624 and canonized in 1726, he continues to inspire many believers.

Prayer:

St. James, pray for us that, in moments of challenge and controversy, we may follow your example in serving God and spreading the Gospel with unwavering dedication and humility.

Saint Virgilius

St. Virgilius was born in Ireland in the year 700. He was an exceptional scientist who lived ahead of his time. He served as the abbot of Aghaboe, near Dublin, Ireland, and was famously known as "the Geometer" due to his extensive knowledge of geography. In 743, he embarked on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land but was unable to reach there. Instead, he ended up at the court of Pepin. In 745, when Pepin defeated Odilo, Duke of Bavaria, he appointed Virgilius as the abbot of the monastery of Sankt Peter and the Bishop of the diocese of Salzburg. Unlike the continental tradition, the Irish custom allowed the abbot to be the head of the diocese, and the bishop was supposed to be subject to the abbot. Therefore, Virgilius had himself consecrated as the bishop on June 15th, 767. During their time in Salzburg, St. Virgilius and St. Boniface had a disagreement about the most appropriate method of baptism. Eventually, the Pope settled the dispute in Virgilius' favor. However, there were other controversial beliefs held by Virgilius relating to anthropology, geography, and astronomy that St. Boniface disagreed with. Consequently, Pope Zachary ordered an investigation into Virgilius' ideas. Nevertheless, there was no solid evidence found to support any claims of heresy, and Virgilius was able to successfully defend his beliefs. St. Virgilius is remembered for his remarkable accomplishment in converting the Alpine Slavs to Christianity and for his missionary work in Hungary, where he made history by being the first missionary to visit the country. However, his dedicated service came to a sorrowful end when he fell ill and passed away on November 27th, 784, after returning from a preaching mission in a distant part of his diocese. His grave was discovered in 1181 after the grand cathedral he had built and dedicated to St. Rupert in Salzburg was destroyed. Later, in recognition of his remarkable life and contributions, he was canonized by Pope Gregory IX in 1233.

St. Virgilius, intercede for us that we may flourish in the divine wisdom of God.

Readings from the Bible of the Roman Catholic Church:

First Reading: Daniel 7: 2-14
Responsorial Psalm: Daniel 3: 75-81
Alleluia: Luke 21: 28
Gospel: Luke 21: 29-33

First Reading : Daniel 7:2‐14

I, Daniel, have been seeing visions in the night. I saw that the four winds of heaven were stirring up the great sea; four great beasts emerged from the sea, each different from the other. The first was like a lion with eagle’s wings; and as I looked its wings were torn off, and it was lifted from the ground and set standing on its feet like a man; and it was given a human heart. The second beast I saw was different, like a bear, raised up on one of its sides, with three ribs in its mouth, between its teeth. “Up!” came the command “Eat quantities of flesh!” After this I looked, and saw another beast, like a leopard, and with four bird’s wings on its flanks; it had four heads, and power was given to it. Next I saw another vision in the visions of the night: I saw a fourth beast, fearful, terrifying, very strong; it had great iron teeth, and it ate, crushed and trampled underfoot what remained. It was different from the previous beasts and had ten horns. While I was looking at these horns, I saw another horn sprouting among them, a little one; three of the original horns were pulled out by the roots to make way for it; and in this horn I saw eyes like human eyes, and a mouth that was full of boasts. As I watched: Thrones were set in place and one of great age took his seat. His robe was white as snow, the hair of his head as pure as wool. His throne was a blaze of flames, its wheels were a burning fire. A stream of fire poured out, issuing from his presence. A thousand thousand waited on him, ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. A court was held and the books were opened. The great things the horn was saying were still ringing in my ears, and as I watched, the beast was killed, and its body destroyed and committed to the flames. The other beasts were deprived of their power, but received a lease of life for a season and a time. I gazed into the visions of the night. And I saw, coming on the clouds of heaven, one like a son of man. He came to the one of great age and was led into his presence. On him was conferred sovereignty, glory and kingship, and men of all peoples, nations and languages became his servants. His sovereignty is an eternal sovereignty which shall never pass away, nor will his empire ever be destroyed.

Responsive Psalm : Daniel 3:75‐81

Mountains and hills! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Every thing that grows on the earth! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Springs of water! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Seas and rivers! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Sea beasts and everything that lives in water! bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Birds of heaven! all bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!
Animals wild and tame! all bless the Lord.
Give glory and eternal praise to him!

Alleluia: Luke 21: 28
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
28 Stand erect and raise your heads because your redemption is at hand.
(20. 'When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then you must realise that it will soon be laid desolate.
21. Then those in Judaea must escape to the mountains, those inside the city must leave it, and those in country districts must not take refuge in it.
22. For this is the time of retribution when all that scripture says must be fulfilled.
23. Alas for those with child, or with babies at the breast, when those days come!
24. 'For great misery will descend on the land and retribution on this people. They will fall by the edge of the sword and be led captive to every gentile country; and Jerusalem will be trampled down by the gentiles until their time is complete.
25. 'There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars; on earth nations in agony, bewildered by the turmoil of the ocean and its waves;
26. men fainting away with terror and fear at what menaces the world, for the powers of heaven will be shaken.
27. And then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
28. When these things begin to take place, stand erect, hold your heads high, because your liberation is near at hand.')
R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel : Luke 21:29‐33

Jesus told his disciples a parable: ‘Think of the fig tree and indeed every tree. As soon as you see them bud, you know that summer is now near. So with you when you see these things happening: know that the kingdom of God is near. I tell you solemnly, before this generation has passed away all will have taken place. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.’

For our reflection today:

“Heaven and earth will pass away”, Jesus says, “but my words will not pass away” (v. 31). This is the true crux. On that day, each of us will have to understand whether the Word of the Son of God has illuminated our personal existence, or whether we turned our back to it, preferring to trust in our own words. More than ever, it will be the moment in which to abandon ourselves definitively to the Father’s love and to entrust ourselves to his mercy. No one can escape this moment, none of us! Shrewdness, which we often instil in our conduct in order to validate the image we wish to offer, will no longer be useful; likewise, the power of money and of economic means with which we pretentiously presume to buy everything and everyone, will no longer be of use. We will have with us nothing more than what we have accomplished in this life by believing in his Word: the all and nothing of what we have lived or neglected to fulfil. We will take with us only what we have given. (Pope Francis, Angelus, 18 November 2018)

The word that Isaias the son of Amos saw, concerning Juda and Jerusalem. And many people shall go, and say: Come and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, and to the house of the God of Jacob, and he will teach us his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall come forth from Sion, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem. And he shall judge the Gentiles, and rebuke many people: and they shall turn their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into sickles: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they be exercised any more to war.

Gospel: Matthew 24: 37-44

And as in the days of Noe, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, even till that day in which Noe entered into the ark, and they knew not till the flood came, and took them all away; so also shall the coming of the Son of man be. Then two shall be in the field: one shall be taken, and one shall be left. Two women shall be grinding at the mill: one shall be taken, and one shall be left. Watch ye therefore, because ye know not what hour your Lord will come. But know this ye, that if the goodman of the house knew at what hour the thief would come, he would certainly watch, and would not suffer his house to be broken open. Wherefore be you also ready, because at what hour you know not the Son of man will come.

Pembacaan Mazmur: Dan. 3:82-87;
Pembacaan dari Injil Santo Lukas: Luk. 21:34-36.
Warna Liturgi Hijau.

Pembacaan Pertama:

Binatang-binatang besar yang empat ekor itu ialah empat raja yang akan muncul dari dalam bumi;
Lalu aku ingin mendapat penjelasan tentang binatang yang keempat itu, yang berbeda dengan segala binatang yang lain, yang sangat menakutkan, dengan gigi besinya dan kuku tembaganya, yang melahap dan meremukkan dan menginjak-injak sisanya dengan kakinya;

Readings from the Bible of the Roman Catholic Church:

First Reading: Daniel 7: 15-27
Responsorial Psalm: Daniel 3: 82-87
Alleluia: Luke 21: 36
Gospel: Luke 21: 34-36

First Reading: Daniel 7: 15-27

My spirit trembled, I Daniel was affrighted at these things, and the visions of my head troubled me. I went near to one of them that stood by, and asked the truth of him concerning all these things, and he told me the interpretation of the words, and instructed me: These four great beasts are four kingdoms, which shall arise out of the earth. But the saints of the most high God shall take the kingdom: and they shall possess the kingdom for ever and ever. After this I would diligently learn concerning the fourth beast, which was very different from all, and exceeding terrible: his teeth and claws were of iron: he devoured and broke in pieces, and the rest he stamped upon with his feet: And concerning the ten horns that he had on his head: and concerning the other that came up, before which three horns fell: and of that horn that had eyes, and a mouth speaking great things, and was greater than the rest. I beheld, and lo, that horn made war against the saints, and prevailed over them, Till the Ancient of days came and gave judgment to the saints of the most High, and the time came, and the saints obtained the kingdom. And thus he said: The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be greater than all the kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces. And the ten horns of the same kingdom, shall be ten kings: and another shall rise up after them, and he shall be mightier than the former, and he shall bring down three kings. And he shall speak words against the High One, and shall crush the saints of the most High: and he shall think himself able to change times and laws, and they shall be delivered into his hand until a time, and times, and half a time. And judgment shall sit, that his power may be taken away, and be broken in pieces, and perish even to the end. And that the kingdom, and power, and the greatness of the kingdom, under the whole heaven, may be given to the people of the saints of the most High: whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all kings shall serve him, and shall obey him.

Responsorial Psalm: Daniel 3: 82-87

Alleluia: Luke 21: 36
R. Alleluia, alleluia.
36 Be vigilant at all times and pray That you may have the strength to stand before the Son of Man.

R. Alleluia, alleluia.

Gospel: Luke 21: 34-36

And take heed to yourselves, lest perhaps your hearts be overcharged with surfeiting and drunkenness, and the cares of this life, and that day come upon you suddenly. For as a snare shall it come upon all that sit upon the face of the whole earth. Watch ye, therefore, praying at all times, that you may be accounted worthy to escape all these things that are to come, and to stand before the Son of man.
